BTEC First Diploma in Operations and Maintenance Engineering (Aerospace/Mechanical)

This course offers students from a non-engineering background practical experience and preparation for further study.

The one-year, full-time programme provides the skills and qualifications needed to progress to more specialised training, such as the National Diploma in Aerospace Engineering.

With the BTEC diploma you will also attain NVQ Level 1 in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) and be qualified to start a Modern Apprenticeship.

• Working practices
• Engineering drawing out and marking out
• Operations and maintenance engineering
• Mechanical maintenance fundamentals
• Developing yourself and working with others
• Key skills: communication, numeracy, IT
• Working safely in an engineering environment

You will learn through a mixture of lectures, private study, laboratory work and workshops. Assessment is through exams, assignments and continuous assessment.

Entry requirements

You need an interest in engineering, and you should also have some GCSEs at grade D or above (although the latter is not essential).

All candidates will be interviewed.
